Fancy Dress Corner Fold / pattern & Video Tutorial

Hi everyone, this is an easy corner fold dress that i showed my card making class how to do and i would love to show you. If you haven't tried any of my corner fold patterns yet this one is a great pattern to start on. I stamped the swirls after the folding was done. We also used the cut out to make this second card....

which i ran through the cuttlebug and added some ribbon around the waist and one of my rolled scallop rose's with a pearl in the center, which you will find the pattern for HERE
So quick and you get 2 cards with the one pattern. below are the video tutorials for this card which i hope will help you to understand the corner fold concept a little better....i will eventually go back and do more video tutorials on how to corner fold in the future and get you all addicted...lol... but for now here is the pattern for the dress... enjoy...Valita

PS...A few people have also asked what stamp set i used for this project it is called Dot Flourishes
heres a pic of them...i used two different ones from this set to create a fuller flourish look and then added some glitter over the dots...

paper Hibiscus / video

It's another cold wet winter day here in Oz but warm at heart with this paper hibiscus. Ive been so inspired by Joannes no tool flowers and asked her some time ago if it was alright to post a few of my own designs and this Hibiscus is one of them. This was also the last card i gave my mum in law when she was last in hospital.

you will need:

light weight card
inks
coloured pencils and markers
Med sun punch
glues
emboss mat
Pattern.
The Hula girl is a sizzix sizzlits die

Cut 5 petals from the pattern, 1 sun punch, 1 thick end of the stamen and 1 thin stamen top with 2 slits cut in the end ( refer to the pattern for measurements). ink all these.

next to add more colour to the petals i simply used a crayola pencil and a regular texter or marker.starting at the pointed tip and flicking the colour towards you.

to shape the petals i used my makeshift deet tool which is a knitting needle glued into a piece of dowel. start at the point pressing firm drag the tool along the petal and fan this out as you go always starting at the point

emboss all five. this kind of embossing will create the curl in the petals you want without doing any other shaping.

Cut a circle of scrap about 1" round and this will be the base to glue the petals to. You can draw some dividing lines as a guide if you like.

A range all five petals and let the glue dry.

Now roll the thicker bottom of the stamen and glue up.

colour glue and slide in the center the of the roll the top longer stamen with the slits.

Cut a circle from the center of the sun punch and apply some glue to the center. place at the top and roll the sun frill around ...

Glue closed and bend down the long center stamens...once dry with a strong glue attach to the center of your flower

add glitter to the stamen and some crystal glitter to the base if you can see some glue

leaves are easy using your emboss tool make a line down the center and veins on the sides and add some inked edges to highlight the embossing. make at least 3 leaves.

Use foam tape 3 layers think to support the petals. Remember to let all this dry before attaching to you card......follow this link for the Video Tutorial .....I hope you have enjoyed its been a labor of love ..Valita

When i taught this in my class my friend Joan came up with this double hibiscus! isn't it beautiful!! thanks Joan for your inspiration.

not freedom to do wrong, but freedom to love

Rolled scallop Rose / video

Hi all, It seems like forever ago that i have posted here. So much has changed in our every day life with the passing of Granny and has taken time to let all this work its way through. As i sit at the computer here in its new room at the front our our house i can see out the window across the road and it all looks so lonely. 13yrs of checking to see if the door is open is a habit that you don't loose in a hurry. after weeks of cleaning out houses and moving 3 rooms in my own house i have slowly began to get back into what i like to do. I have a new craft space which is nice, neat and new but have found it hard to get inspired in it.....that will come!.... I had made this card a few months ago and its time to share again, something that has helped inspire me. So here we go with a new tutorial and fresh inspiration.

You'll need a round scallop punch or scallop nesties will work too
2 shades of coloured card
tweezers or a large quilling type tool

Now to create the rolled rose hold them together and cut a swirl leaving a small circle in the center...much like the cool swirly snakes you made in school that you hung up everywhere.

To roll the rose i used a large needle with the eye cut off the top and glued into a wooden dowel ( i use this for quilling). Or you could use long nosed tweezers. Place this over the end tip and start to roll around

Roll the whole length and take rose off the needle now let the rose spring open and glue the ends down when you're happy with the size and shape. You can also bend down some of the petals. When gluing to your card cover all the base with a strong glue and add your leaves, I also added some glitter to the petals. A very quick and simple way to do a rose.

Well i hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and i can see this being used in many different cards using different size scallop circles. here's a link to my video tutorial of this rose. We also have finished our back garden ....a labor of love this was ...here's some pics...take care...... Valita

But someday we are going to
see Him in His completeness, face to face.
Now all that I know is hazy and blurred,
but then i will see everything clearly,
just as clearly as God sees into my heart right now.

in memory of my mum in law

thought i would let you all know we were with my mum in law this morning when she passed away peacefully. In the 20 years i knew her i was truly blessed she taught me how to be a mum, to love and show love, to have mercy for others and be fair with everyone, have patience in whatever life deals you and trust God always. I will miss you Granny but i know you are safe in the arms of Jesus rest now.

and a last thought

and a last thought

You shall weep no more, for He will
surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry.
He will answer you. Though He give you the
bread of adversity and the water of affliction,
yet he will be with you to teach you-with your
own eyes you will see your teacher.
And if you leave Gods paths and go astray,
You will hear a voice behind you say,
"No, this is the way; walk here."

We've decided to revamp our yard as the grass isnt growing well and we only have a small yard anyhow. Im so enjoying being in my garden after 6 months of panic attacks ive found some peace in my garden God is good. I love succulents and Bromeliads and it amazes me how many varieties are out there. I just bought a succulent yesterday called Donkey's ears and i think its amazing...here's a pic

Check out how this beauty makes new plants at the ends of the leaves!!! Gods creation always amazes me! and a pic of our front yard....finally finished but still needs a few more plants. Best thing is no more mowing!

thankyou for all your comments in my guest book and concerns for me and my family over summer we do appreciate them. and ill leave you all with.....

Poppy -No tools flowers/ creating a leaf for the Poppy

I'm finally finding time to add to my blog after wrestling with a computer program which i still haven't sorted out....its been a while and i appolgise to all those who like to follow my blog. Ive been still enjoying Joannes no tool flowers and show you the poppy i made

and a close up

you can find the pattern on Joannes Mainly Flowers blog. But ill show you how i did my leaf.
Cut 1 leaf from my pattern below and edge with black or dark green ink.

Next score a fold line down the middle and fold in half and ink edge the fold.

Fold the leaf in half with the inked side out and fold back the top tip and ink the fold line....this will create the veins on the leaf. do this both to the left and fold back to the right so it inks both veins.

then do the same for the next 2 sections.

And when you unfold the finished leaf will look like this.

Here's the leaf pattern....

I hope you enjoy these flowers as i have ...thanks again Joanne for your creativeness.
